The Ethnographic Musician

I am a research fellow at the Min-On Music Research Insttute and in the School of Media and Communication at the Univesity of Leeds. I have a PhD in Music Sociology from the University of Exeter and my research investigates the potential role of musical processes within a peacebuilding context. I am particularly interested in the similarities of interactive processes between identity, memory, emotion, belief and behaviour within musical activities, ethnography and conflict transformation practices. More recently, I have been applying media and communication theories to models of music and social change.
